Borgholm Church was consecrated in 1879 by Bishop Pehr Sjöbring and is built in the Neo-Romanesque style. With its buttresses, round-arch friezes, blind arcades, and the tower's characteristic tourelles, it is a magnificent feature in the cityscape. The church is an obvious landmark – a place where services, concerts, and events still bring people together.

The facility has been destroyed several times by severe storms but has always been rebuilt. With its refreshing dips and timeless spa resort feel, the cold bathhouse is still a beloved place for summer rituals.

At Öland's northern tip stands Långe Erik, the lighthouse from 1845 that has guided seafarers for over 150 years. The limestone tower is 32 meters high and offers a sweeping view of the sea. Birdwatchers and visitors alike come here to experience the tranquility at the very edge of the open sea.

Barbro Lindgren, born in 1937, is one of Sweden's most beloved children's authors. For many years, she has lived on Öland, where she draws inspiration for her stories. With books like Loranga, Masarin och Dartanjang and Vilda bebin, she has created playful and heartwarming stories that have captivated readers for generations and made her a unique voice in Swedish literature.

Carl Malmsten, the master of Swedish furniture design, found inspiration on Öland. In 1957, he founded Capellagården in Vickleby – a school for crafts, design, and gardening. Here, he wanted to create a place where beauty, tradition, and nature could meet, and the institution continues to thrive today as an important part of artistic Öland.

Author Johan Theorin has made Öland the backdrop for his acclaimed crime novels. In his books, such as The Asylum and The Darkest Room, Ölandic folklore and dramatic landscapes are interwoven with suspense and dark family secrets.
