It had running water, electric lighting, and even an electric elevator – something very unusual at the time. Through nurseries and fruit trees, the aim was to encourage Linköping residents to grow for household use and strengthen fruit growing in Östergötland. Today, the park is one of the city's most cherished meeting places.

The poet Bruno K. Öijer grew up in Linköping and has been one of Sweden's most distinctive literary voices since the 1970s. With his dark, dreamlike texts and intense stage performances, he has created a unique place in Swedish literature. His poems often explore themes of loneliness, rebellion, and the inner world of man.

Lars Winnerbäck is one of Sweden's most beloved artists and strongly associated with Linköping, where he grew up. Through songs about longing, everyday life, and growing up, he has depicted both the city and the people around him. During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, tramps were a common sight in Swedish towns, including Linköping. They wandered between farms and communities in search of work, food, or a place to sleep for the night. Many supported themselves through temporary jobs, crafts, or music, and travelers from different parts of the country often gathered near the railway and the outskirts of town. The tramp eventually became a symbol of both freedom and a hard life on the road.

Since Linköping University was founded in the 1970s, students have become an integral part of the city's identity. The vibrant student life characterizes Linköping with colorful overalls, bicycles everywhere, and traditions like "sittningar" (student dinners), "spex" (student plays), and Walpurgis celebrations.
